Esto no es un Hotel
Artistic Project developed during the residency at LUGAR A DUDAS.
Developed by Paula Massarutti and Alexandra McCormick
This work emerged when the artists questioned the place they would inhabit during their stay, in an old house in the San Antonio neighborhood. After several days, they decided to enunciate their space as: "This is not a hotel."
Subsequently, they fabricated and placed a styrofoam sign with that phrase on the facade of the house, and from that moment, they began to receive visits and comments from the neighborhood's residents: "If this is not a hotel, then what is it?"
In the following weeks, they decided to open the house to the street and proposed to the neighbors to think about the definition of their own homes. After several discussions, they collaborated with some of them to come up with definitions for their houses and constructed new signs that they installed on the facades. In this way, they established a new relationship between private and public space in that old neighborhood of Cali.
