She studied Computer Graphics at RTC in Montreal. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts from Jorge Tadeo Lozano University in Bogotá and her Master’s degree in Visual Arts from the National University of Colombia.
The work of Alexandra McCormick Ramírez explores various forms of representation, addressing territory and landscape as personal memory, social critique, and poetic exploration, engaging with themes such as loss, displacement, and the symbolic reconstruction of territory. Her projects stand out for integrating sculpture, drawing, painting, and installation, reflecting an interdisciplinary approach. Alexandra McCormick Ramírez’s work is distinguished by its ability to re-signify territory and its multiple connotations, offering a critical and poetic vision of the physical and emotional landscapes that define our reality.
Recent exhibitions: She has participated in national and international exhibitions, including Inter-medio at Jano Gallery, Verdun, Montreal; curated by Alexandra Riesbi, Montreal; Regarde! 2024 Montreal, curated by Eunice Bélidor; ArtBO, ArteVivo, Artesanías de Colombia 2024; MDE15 at the Museum of Antioquia, Medellín; the National Salon of Young Art; ARTBO and Arte Cámara; and the Salón BBVA. Her work has been exhibited at the MACRO Museum in Argentina, The World Bank Art Program in Washington, and the Provincial Center of Visual Arts in Havana, Cuba, as well as at the Banco de la República in Colombia.
Recent awards and recognitions: She was nominated for the Sara Mondiano Prize in 2013 and obtained second place at the Nogal Young Artists’ Salon. In 2008, she received a distinction in the Master’s program in Visual Arts at the National University for her thesis Office of Intangible Heritage. In 2005, she won third place at the IV Municipal Photography Salon, and in 2003 she obtained first place in the contest organized by the District Institute of Culture and Tourism. Between 1998 and 2002, she was awarded academic excellence scholarships at Jorge Tadeo Lozano University.
Teaching and collective projects: She has led workshops and laboratories in Bogotá and other regions of Colombia in collaboration with Banco de la República, the Ministry of Culture, and Fedepalma. Additionally, she has taught drawing at the Pedagogical University and courses on sculptural and three-dimensional languages at the Pontifical Xavierian University. She has carried out collective projects in Rosario (Argentina), Bogotá, and Cali (Colombia).
Residencies and collections: 2024 Jano Lapin Gallery, Montreal, Canada. In 2015, she was selected by the Ministry of Culture for an international residency at the Banff Centre, Canada.
